Content Studio responded to a couple's passion for their garden in the renovation of their heritage Hawthorn home.

THE VALUE OF HERITAGE
When renovating a heritage building, Content Studio places significant value on the period façades and the building's original layout. These constraints can pose challenges when integrating modern conveniences and aligning the design with contemporary lifestyle, but our approach is to complement rather than oppose. The additions to the house use forms that are a response to the existing façade.
The project also highlights how careful design can bridge the past and present. Content Studio preserved the Edwardian charm of the home, ensuring it remains true to its heritage. At the same time, the modern additions - like the expansive glazing and open-plan living areas - cater to contemporary needs and tastes.
ROOMS WITH A VIEW
Collaborating with landscape designer Kate Patterson, Content Studio carefully crafted a scheme that brings the beauty of the garden into the heart of the home.
We used expansive windows in the living spaces to frame key elements of the garden, creating interrupted visual connections between the interior and external spaces.
Each window showcases a different aspect of the garden: the kitchen overlooks an edible garden, the living area overlooks the landscaped pool, and the dining room overlooks a secluded courtyard. The garden is accessible from the living, kitchen and dining areas.
