Content Studio breathed new life into an iconic heritage building in Fitzroy, transforming it into a fertility clinic.

IT TAKES A TEAM
Renovating a heritage-listed property in Victoria involves navigating a complex set of regulations from the local council and Heritage Victoria.
These buildings often feature intricate façades, period details, and structural constraints that must remain intact. Renovations need to balance heritage preservation with uses not conceived of when the building was built.
The process can take time, so assembling a team of professionals who understand heritage compliance is important. Content Studio worked closely with Heritage Victoria, our heritage consultant Michael Taylor, and the builder plan group to steer a path through the regulatory requirements, ensuring all modifications respected the building’s historical significance while meeting the program and budget.
A NEW PURPOSE
Originally built in the boom-time style, the building had been renovated over time for use as a residence, a boarding house, and an art gallery and residence, before its latest incarnation.
The brief required the integration of a state-of-the-art laboratory and medical facility within the heritage framework. This demanded innovative solutions to ensure the building met the complex servicing needs of an IVF clinic, including strict calibration requirements for the laboratory.
PRIORITISING THE PATIENT
Content Studio worked with Megan Hounslow to create relaxed and positive interior spaces, the warm neutrals of wellness retreats inspired the scheme for the foyer, the waiting areas and the private consultation rooms.
We achieved the recalibration of the building's interior without compromising its historical integrity. The final design delivers a space that seamlessly integrates modern medical requirements within the elegance of a Victorian terrace.
